Preliminary Programme

Please check regularly on the content and speakers update.

The programme will cover a wide range of topics and sessions, exploring the main challenges and solutions to make the corrugated industry more sustainable, more cost efficient and environmentally friendly.

1. Actual status of the EU regulation, challenges and opportunities for the industry:
EU regulations are evolving to address the developments in energy efficiency and decarbonisation and their impact on the corrugated industry.

2. Energy efficiency
The FEFCO Best Practice Handbook offer insights into energy efficiency in the corrugated board industry and the FEFCO Energy Survey offers the possibility to benchmark the status of energy efficiency on plant level.
By focusing on the following key areas, the corrugated board industry can reduce energy consumption and contribute to a more sustainable future.

General/Overview: Presentation of the FEFCO energy survey and the best practice Handbook.
Steam System: Understanding the special thermodynamic properties of saturated steam and knowing the latest developments of the steam system helps to improve its efficiency.
Corrugator: Improving and measuring energy efficiency at the corrugator and leveraging heat recovery systems.
Converting Processes: Enhancing energy efficiency in converting processes and controlling energy consumption on dryers.
Auxiliaries: Monitoring and optimising ventilation systems often overlooked but significant energy consumers.
Monitoring and organisation: Organising and monitoring energy efficiency initiatives for successful implementation.

3. Decarbonisation
The corrugated board industry is actively pursuing decarbonisation. A promising solution under certain conditions is the adoption of electric boilers and hybrid solutions as an intermediate step. Also, biomass-based solutions like pellets-fired boiler-houses are being explored for their carbon-neutral benefits, showcasing the industry's commitment to sustainability and a greener future.
